A) Are/Were/Is/Was
1) Are you a member of any clubs or classes? Yes. I joined a ping pong club recently.
2) Were you a good student in elementary school? No. I often fell asleep during class.
3) Is your doctor friendly? Sometimes. She is very serious.
4) Was your last birthday fun? Yes. I went bowling with my friends.
B) Do/Did/Does/Did/Can
1) Do you go to the cinema? I used to, but now I watch Netflix.
2) Did you have breakfast today? Kind of. I had a bowl of cereal.
3) Does your spouse like hiking? No. He prefers to ride his bicycle.
4) Did your new friend call you yet? Yes. We will have coffee tomorrow afternoon.
5) Can you play a musical instrument? No. I wish I could play the piano.
C) Are/Were/Do/Did + ever
1) Are you ever afraid while traveling? Seldom. I avoid dodgy places.
2) Were you ever poor? Well, I didn't have much money at university.
3) Do you ever read books? Rarely. I do my reading on the internet.
4) As a child, did you ever fly a kite? Yes, but it usually ended up in a tree.
Extra One: Hyperbole (exaggeration)
A: Are you OK? Why do you look so pale? B: I¡¯m not OK. I ate a ton of food for lunch. A: Where did you have lunch? B: I went to that new gigantic buffet with friends. A: Did they eat too much too? B: Yes. I think the restaurant may go out of business.

B) Where (places)

2) Where did you grow up? I grew up in a small rural city.
C) When (general time)
1) When do you go shopping? I go when the supermarket isn't crowded.
2) When did you get up this morning? I got up just after dawn.
D) What time (specific time)
1) What time do you go to bed? I hit the sack at midnight.
2) What time did the sun rise today? It rose at 6:07 am.
E) Why (reasons)
1) Why do people watch TV all day long? I guess they have nothing else to do.
2) Why did the bicycle fall over? Because it was two tired.
F) Who (people)
1) Who do you like to spend time with? I like to spend time with my mom.
2) Who did you meet recently? I met my friends from university.
Extra Two: Irony (an unexpected twist)
A: Your fridge is full. Did you go to the supermarket? B: Yes. I needed lots of stuff for my husband's party. A: What did you buy? B: I bought some really good steak. A: Is that your husband's favorite food? B: No, not really¡¦ But I love steak. |
