Section Two ~ Form-Talk 110 ~ If Clauses One ~ Dialogue Practice ~

 

Form One: If + simple present + will + present verb

 

Example questions:

 

Q1: If you have lots of money, what will you buy? Where will you go?

Maybe a thousand gift certificates from a hundred places near my home. Nowhere.

 

Q2: If you go to a ___ ? ___ restaurant, what will you order? (unlimited credit)

 Japanese: Uni Maki (sea urchin wraps) Chu Toro (tuna belly) Atsukan (hot saki) etc.

 

Q3: If you have free time, who will you meet? What will you do?

Random people at a popular pub. I'll make conversation, play darts, and dance. 

 

Q4: If you don¡¯t get up early, will you be late? For what?

No. All my jobs have been PM: Delivery, Chef, and Teacher. Seldom late for friends.

 

Q5: If you have a problem, who will you talk to? Or what will you do?

My older sister. Not often my wife. It can fail. A lawyer? I will consider the best option.

 

Q6: If you don¡¯t have any money, what will you do? Will you borrow some?

I will panic. Then I will call people. Then I will sell my belongings. Then get a job. 

 

Q7: If you entertain friends, what will you make for them? Will you enjoy it?

I will make Margaritas, salsa, guacamole with chips. Play Mariachi music until daylight.

 

Q8: If you have a headache, will you take medicine? Why or why not?

Maybe not. Over the counter meds don't help. I take a walk, stretch, listen to music.

 

Q9: If you travel abroad, will you bring your own food? Why?

No. The point of going abroad is to experience a different culture¡¦ including food. 

 

Q10: If you become rich will you give to others? Share your thoughts.

Yes. If someone gets rich and becomes a miser, the joy of life will be lost. Giving is good.

Pre-Lesson Journal-Talk: Each student takes a turn at the beginning of class

                                                        

1) In the first section, fill in the blanks, then practice your role plays on your own.

 

2) Then, as a class, in groups, or in pairs, perform the role plays you have created.

 

3) After that, perform your role play in class with a partner/several partners.

 

4) Finally, challenge yourself by performing the role play with no written cues.

 

5) In the second section, briefly discuss the form as a class. Avoid over-analysis.

 

6) Select two questions from the list. Practice with a partner, then in front of the class.

 

7) You may wish to discuss the form (section two) before the role play (section one).
