Form Two: If + simple past + would + present verb
Example questions:
Q1: Where are you going to go_________ (tomorrow, this weekend, in a few days)? Next winter I'm going to go to Thailand. I'm gonna stay at nice hotels and eat spicy food.
Q2: What are you going to have for dinner tonight? Where? Who with? I'm going to have dinner at Pizza Hut with my Zoom students. Salad bar included.
Q3: What time are you going to go home today? Any reason? I'm going to go home late. I want to play screen golf and eat and drink with my friends.
Q4: When are you going to meet your high school/college friends? Where? We're gonna meet next month. It's annual. We always go to the beach and barbecue.
Q5: What are you going to do on your next birthday/anniversary/holiday? I'm going to try skydiving on my next birthday. Just kidding! I'm gonna drink with friends.
Q6: Who are you going to miss when they move away/die? Why? Wrong question. Who will miss me? I think people you don't expect will miss you most.
Q7: What are you going to buy for your home next time? Tell. I'm gonna buy a painting. There are very few things on my walls. My home is drab.
Q8: Who are you going to text on your next break? No one. I don't text unless there is a reason. I see people texting for no reason all the time.
Q9: When are you going to tell your friend/spouse your worst secret? Never. Bad idea. Pop (popular) psychology might profess this, but our mind is our own.
Q10: Where are you going to go if you are rejected by a friend/spouse or depressed? Definitely, I'm going, to go to a public bath. I will soak in hot and cold water and recover.

Pre-Lesson Journal-Talk: Each student takes a turn at the beginning of class
1) In the first section, fill in the blanks, then practice your role plays on your own.
2) Then, as a class, in groups, or in pairs, perform the role plays you have created.
3) After that, perform your role play in class with a partner/several partners.
4) Finally, challenge yourself by performing the role play with no written cues.
5) In the second section, briefly discuss the form as a class. Avoid over-analysis.
6) Select two questions from the list. Practice with a partner, then in front of the class.
7) You may wish to discuss the form (section two) before the role play (section one). |
