Before/After/When: Wh + verb + before/after/when + object

 

Example questions:

 

Q1: Where do you go when you have free time?

I often go to the park near my home. There is a coffee stand at the entrance. Latte!

 

Q2: What do you do after you have breakfast?

I like to have a cup of black tea and read the news on the internet. Also, I water my plants.

 

Q3: What do you prepare before you go hiking?

I put two boiled eggs and half an apple in my bag and I stretch for 5 minutes and walk.

 

Q4: How long do you exercise when you work out?

I don't work out, but I stretch for 10 to 15 minutes a day. I use my bike to go everywhere.

 

Q5: What did you do after you got home yesterday?

I checked my e-mail, ate a ham and cheese sandwich, and watched CSI Miami.

 

Q6: Who do you meet when you want to have coffee?

I read a book or "meet" various famous people (Bios) through the internet (on YouTube)

 

Q7: What do you buy when you want a snack?

I like anything with peanuts like snickers or Korean squid-coated peanuts or chocolate.

 

Q8: What do you pack before you take a trip?

I pack a lot of underwear and socks, a few shirts, a few pairs of pants, and a chess set.

 

Q9: How long do you sleep when you take a nap?

From 10 minutes to an hour. I don't like naps because I feel spaced out when I wake up.

 

Q10: What will you do after you get home today?

I will make dinner with my wife, listen to some classical music, and have a glass of wine.

Pre-Lesson Journal-Talk: Each student takes a turn at the beginning of class

                                                        

1) In the first section, fill in the blanks, then practice your role plays on your own.

 

2) Then, as a class, in groups, or in pairs, perform the role plays you have created.

 

3) After that, perform your role play in class with a partner/several partners.

 

4) Finally, challenge yourself by performing the role play with no written cues.

 

5) In the second section, briefly discuss the form as a class. Avoid over-analysis.

 

6) Select two questions from the list. Practice with a partner, then in front of the class.

 

7) You may wish to discuss the form (section two) before the role play (section one).
