Section One ~ Basic-Talk 124 ~ Seasons and Travel ~ Role Play Practice ~
A) What are "seasons" when we have a global climate? They're always different.
B) That¡¯s right. Northern winters mean southern summers. Spring and fall the same.
A) But no matter where you live, we're always looking for some place to go.
B) That's right. Travel. It just depends on where your curiosity happens to take you.
A) Where have you been on your travels?

Section Two ~ Form-Talk 124 ~ Nine Verb Forms ~ Dialogue Practice ~
Example questions:
Q1: What kind of trip, if any, are you planning these days? If not, why not? Present progressive: I'm planning to go to Tahiti and Jamaica.
Q2: Do you travel enough to satisfy your curiosity? Explain. Simple present: I have a strong will to experience new things.
Q3: Tell of a time when you didn't enjoy a trip? Why? Simple past: I didn't like Disney Land. There were to many lines.
Q4: What were you doing the last time you were waiting in a doctor's office? Past progressive: I was walking around and checking text messages.
Q5: Where are you going to go on your next day trip? Describe it. Future with going to + verb: I'm going to go to the restroom.
Q6: Will you retire when you are 65 years old? Future with "will": I will never "retire". Life is too short.
Q7: What hobbies will you be enjoying in 5 or 10 years? Tell a story. Future progressive: I think I will be playing chess and writing poetry.
Q8: Have you ever had lots of money and free time? Explain. Present perfect: I have. I travelled every chance that was available to me.
Q9: Where had you travelled before you became an adult? Did it change you? How? Past perfect: I had travelled from the North through the South of USA. It changed me.

Pre-Lesson Journal-Talk: Each student takes a turn at the beginning of class
1) In the first section, fill in the blanks, then practice your role plays on your own.
2) Then, as a class, in groups, or in pairs, perform the role plays you have created.
3) After that, perform your role play in class with a partner/several partners.
4) Finally, challenge yourself by performing the role play with no written cues.
5) In the second section, briefly discuss the form as a class. Avoid over-analysis.
6) Select two questions from the list. Practice with a partner, then in front of the class.
7) You may wish to discuss the form (section two) before the role play (section one). |
