~ Dialogue ~ Topic 8 ~ Health ~ Discuss Questions and Answers ~
1) Are you healthy? Why do you think so, or, why don't you think so? I could be healthier. I had my two-year checkup recently and the doctor didn¡¯t find anything serious, but my LDL cholesterol was a bit high. I have to cut down on fat.
2) Are you a member of a health club or gym? What do you do there? How often? Yes. I go to a fitness center 3 or 4 times a week. I only use the treadmill. I don¡¯t like pumping iron. It¡¯s run by the local government so the fees are relatively low.
3) What are the advantages or disadvantages of modern versus traditional medicine? Modern medicine (based on science) is obviously more popular around the world. But traditional remedies (based on experience) can be effective. Strive for a good balance.
4) How good or bad is the public health service in your country? Explain. It¡¯s pretty good. Recently, we¡¯ve had a pandemic (COVID-19) and our country dealt with it somewhat effectively. Our national health insurance is also low-cost and effective.
5) How important is it for you to live up to 100 years or beyond? Why? Not important. Dying well is essential. Because of this, we need to take the proper steps to manage our own deaths. Death with Dignity is a current global movement.
6) How important is alcohol in your country? Does it cause health problems? Alcohol in excess will always cause problems. Our culture embraces social drinking and alcohol is cheap. It works for some, but others suffer health and other consequences.
7) Do you take vitamins, supplements, or medicines? Do they help? Yes. I take multi-vitamins and several supplements (rose hip capsules, wheat grass powder, ginseng extract, and prebiotics). Honestly, I don¡¯t know if they help.
8) Do you watch your weight? Have you ever been on a diet? Tell. Yes. I watch it and it keeps going up. Seriously, I don¡¯t weigh myself. I know when I¡¯m getting fat. I don¡¯t diet, I just stop eating and drinking too much, if possible.
9) What are the most stressful situations in your life? How do you cope? The most stressful situations relate to the lack of money. It can¡¯t buy happiness, but it can buy debt. Getting more money is the solution. Other kinds of stress may be worse.
10) Do you think keeping pets in the home is healthy or not? How so? If you are living alone, a pet is a good way to ward off loneliness. You may catch illness from pets, but it¡¯s not common. People with pet allergies need to find another solution.
