~ Warm–up Activity ~

 1) To begin with, as a class, in groups, in pairs, or by yourself, talk about, and practice the vocabulary.

2) Then, make a sentence (or sentences) relating to the topic (assisted by the teacher).

3) Next, as a class, edit your text to identify questions/errors (optional).

4) Finally, read your revised text to the class. Give and receive feedback and talk about the text as a class.

1) Word to Sentence ~ Three Verb Forms


Use three basic forms of verbs to write three sentences: present, past, and future (in any order).


1) present ~ used for habits and routines

    2) past ~ used for events beginning and ending in the past

       3) future ~ used for events that have not yet happened


Example 1) My friend is a barista, but she doesnt have a job.


Example 2) She paid a lot of money to get her certificate.


Example 3) Maybe she will land a job at Starbucks someday.


If possible, connect the three examples to make a story (consult teacher).


Note: In casual speech and writing, will and going to are often interchanged. In formal writing, they are

different. Will is used when referring to the future with certainty. Going to is used to refer to planned events.



2) Unscramble the Sentences ~

Write the sentences in the correct order. Check as a class. Make sentences into questions. Check. Discuss.

Example 1)  I   an    guess     with    weak    milk    is    a    Americano    latte


I guess an Americano with milk is a weak latte.


What do you order when you go to a coffee shop? Do you drink coffee or tea? Explain.



Example 2)   get    up    After    I     I    the    coffee    machine    turn    on 



Example 3)  drink    Taxi     often    coffee    instant   drivers.



3) Brainstorming Words ~ Use your Imagination

From one student to the next, think of a word and tell the class. Use the first/last letter technique: cat...time...every...year...run new weird...does/doesnt...etc. The teacher will write the list on the board.

Next, students make sentences using words as they like. Make a story if you can or just make sentences.

Take a few minutes to read and share your results. The teacher will provide edits and conversation.


For example: My new  cat is weird. It runs away every Christmas. I guess it doesnt like that time of year.



4) Dictation Questions ~ 


Write the questions dictated by the teacher then discuss the questions.


5) Diary ~


Write a memory from your (recent) past, about your daily routines, or about your future (any idea any time). It could be about your family, friends, a song, a meal, a movie, a painful experience, a fun event, a book, internet content, childhood, future goals, news, social issues, or anything else. Then present it.

Note: This activity may be used at the beginning of each class. As such, it may be assigned as homework. 


6) Describe the Picture ~


Write about the picture, then make corrections together, and discuss with the class.
